The argument by the commenter that you are referring to has no basis in research (despite their vague reference to "studies"). If their argument that poor nutrition leads to "certain parts of there brains lack development and nutrition", then you would find that people who live in environments where they have access to better nutrition than those who don't would exhibit differing rates of schizophrenia, however this is not the case. The average rate of schizophrenia is roughly 0.5-1% of the population, regardless of which country. The cause of schizophrenia is still not fully understood, however what the literature has shown is that it is influenced by genetics, in that people who are related to schizophrenics are more likely to develop it themselves, and that the environment, particularly stressors and drug use also play a contributing role.

Actually, the cause of schizophrenia has not been discovered. There are theories about it, however, but I never heard the underdeveloped brain one (makes no sense to me, unless it is specific areas of the brain). Also, the brain stops physical growth at around 25 years of age. Just like the rest of your body.

You are a very educated to write and send you message over the internet, and i am sure you can do a lot of other things, and somethings that other people can not do: well done! As long as you know the alphabet and can count then you are educated. What the person said about schizophrenia is not the truth.

all i know is that antipsichotic drugs keeps you sedated for life and they are not a solution to the problem

This is a discussion a high school student should have with their guidance counselor, and there is no reason for the student to wait until their senior year to begin this conversation. Guidance counselors already provide, or can provide, this information (at least in my state). Keep in mind that greater than 2/3 college students change their major within the first 2 years of higher education. Many students simply don't know what they really want to study until they get to a college or university and do their own research. Students are usually assigned a faculty advisor as well when they get to college. Many of these same issues can be further addressed by this advisor if the student takes advantage of the services advisors can provide.
