What do you think about people who post their homework questions here? And why does anyone answer them? Topic: I want answers for my homework

Question: I get really annoyed when I see a question along the lines of "Compare and contrast the reactions of so and so in such and such a book upon learning X" or "Define something or other and explain how it relates to the problem of Y"... even "Use these words in a sentence"! These are just people trying to get the Internet to do their homework for them, and it clutters the site and distracts from people who actually have legitimate problems and questions that need to be answered. (I'm of course not talking about the real questions in the Homework Help category, which is a perfectly great thing.) What I really don't understand is why anyone takes the time to sit down and just do entire assignments for these people. What do they get out of it? I'm tempted to report questions like these when I see them, but I don't think they technically violate the guidelines... I should make it clearer that I'm totally okay with people looking for a little help on assignments -- in fact, that's one of the great uses for this site. They just need to do two things: 1. Post the question in Homework Help, and nowhere else. 2. Not just post the text of the question by itself -- they should say something about what exactly is giving them trouble, what they're looking for help with, and show some attempt to engage with the problem themselves. In other words, seek assistance, not the answers. Otherwise, maybe there really should be a Do My Homework category.

i would like it if teachers would check this site each night to see if the homework they have set has been posted here. I think its laziness on the students behalf, and if they are relying on people here to answer things for them then they won't learn anything and in the long run it will catch up with them - it might be on an end of year exam and they suddenly fail because they can't answer the questions. I also want to know what the kids would do if the people here answered wrong - i think that would be great because it would make them think twice about asking us again. But the worse question I have seen asked on here, was by a girl who was writing an essay on Star Wars and she didn't understand anything about the movies, so asked us everything for her to be able to write her essay. She didn't like people telling her to watch the movie, because she said she didn't have time, but how can you write a whole essay based on dozens of diff answers from people on here, on a subject you don't understant - I hope she failed.

There is a Homework Category which is probably in Education & Reference. This has been debated a lot in Forum (top of every page). Just walk on by these questions most of them are just kids

You know, a friend and contact of mine posted a question, and was told to 'do his own homework'. The person who posted this question is a grown man in his 50s, and a former teacher. He was quite distressed, as he'd asked an intelligent question, and expected intelligent answers. Point being, not everyone who asks a question that looks like homework, is actually a student.

THIS QUESTION WAS REALLY interesting! it caught my attention.. i do understand what u feel and even i gets a little annoyed by those who post their homework in the internet.. however, as what u've said they aren't violating the guidelines so there's no use reporting it. it's up to those who would want to answer the paperworks of those lazy students.

I am reminded of that old expression: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." I do think it is okay to ask for help (as you say, in the appropriate section), however, I usually see requests for answers rather than real help (if that makes sense).

Well, since you're a pro at asking the same question in many different version and on many different accounts here on Y!A, I can only imagine that you post the same thing in different ways on Facebook and people are sick of it just like they're sick of it here. Learn: that there's more to life than Facebook, to start loving yourself and to quit trying to gain acceptance from everyone on the planet because that is impossible. Good luck Cassie, Ellie, Amanda or whoever your trying to figure out to be.
