Question: I want to start a baby nursery business. There are absolutely none here and I know they are high in demand around here. There are daycares but they don't accept small babies/childern or infants. And it's a very small town and people keep complaining that there aren't any around. BUT the real reason I'm asking is because of my 16 year old daughter. She has always loved kids and wanted to start a nursery for a couple years now. She's good with kids and everything. She is already graduated and started online college classes ( it's a very small town and the schools/ community college isn't good at all) And I don't feel comfortable letting my child travel real far off. I have the money to start this business and I think it would be good for her to help run it and give her a little bit of extra money since noone is hiring. Can anyone point me to a website that will have helpful information? I just need a little direction on where to start and everything. And before anyone starts Judging my daughter thinking she isn't qualified, She has helped raise several kids for a couple years and helped raise her baby sister and brother when I was working all the time and she's taken classes for childcare for two years and she's certified. And all the neighborhood children absolutely adore her and she's always helping out with the infants around town. I don't want to start a nursery in my own home. I own another building that I can use that has plenty of space.

Set up a business plan first to work out all the details. You are wise NOT to do this in your home. My neighbor tried that and got slapped with a series of zoning violation fines even though she had a day care license. A separate commercial building is far wiser and will be seen as more legit and respectable so it's much better for business. Get free guidance from SCORE-the Service Corps of Retired Executives and look up the Entre Leadership info on DaveRamsey.com for business start ups. Also don't forget that you will have to list your daughter as your employee &withold SS tax from her pay, and have bonding and liability insurance documentation.

I am not a parent, nor have I ever been a babysitter, but I have known some of both and have gathered some things. I googled a bit as well. You may want to check out sites like http://www.sitters.com and set up a profile promoting yourself and your abilities. Craigslist and the like may be good too. Create a resume. I know you are "only 17" and may not have much as far as work experience yet, but you can put any that you have on there. You can also put information about school (classes your in, overall grades, etc). Mention your plans to be a spec. ed. teacher! I CAN say that I chose my doggie sitter partially because of her plans and interests in animals. Anything you can put on there to show responsibility and a genuine love for what you are doing will help greatly. More than anything, parents want to know that the babysitter is babysitting, not making out with her boyfriend and watching bad things on TV. Gather personal references and, as you progress in your career, business references. Aside from clients, Teachers, Coaches, Neighbors, etc. Try to get more than just your mom. Of course she thinks your great. She's your mom! ;) Of course, don't hand these out with your resume unless specifically requested and don't use someone as a reference without asking them first. Just let prospective clients know that that you have references available upon request. You may want to look into taking CPR and/or other first aid classes. Mom's and Dad's love to know that, if something happens, their little munchkin is in capable hands. Good luck. I am not the babysitter type, so I commend anyone who can do it.

You love babies, and thats the best place to start. Just start, at home or any where you like. People, probably your clients, will tell you their expectations and the authorities concerned will tell you what is required. If you are motivated enough, you will get everything fixed in due time and at the same time have a thriving business. Good Luck!

you are lucky that kids are indeed attracted to you. the best you can do is to first advertise your intended business in your town and look for a convenient site safe for kids and lastly be confident in everything you do
