Question: For my prelab (due before beginning lab experiment) I need to calculate the "anticipated theoretical yield". The lab is --> Aldol Condensation: Synthesis of Dibenzalacetone. the reaction is: acetone + 2 benzaldehyde --> dibenzalacetone benzaldehyde: molecular weight = 106.13; amount = 80 micro liters acetone: molecular weight = 58.08; amount = 29 micro liters please show me step by step how to calculate the anticipated theoretical yield. Thank you so much! for Benzaldehyde: mmol = 0.79 for acetone: mmol = 0.40

Limiting reagent in this case is Acetone. 29 x 10^-6 Acetone/ L ---> convert to mL using 1000mL/L ratio = 0.029 mL 0.029mL Acetone x .791g/ 1mL (the density) = grams of acetone grams Acetone divide by 58.08 (the molecular weight) = moles of acetone since in eq. acetone and dibenzalacetone has 1:1 ratio, you can just multiply by the molar weight of dibenzalacetone. and that will give you the theoretical weight

1790 is your total. You got approximately 1220 on what would have been the old SAT (Verbal + Math). Your scores are not bad, but whether its good enough... only the colleges can decided.
