How do people write whole books? Topic: How important is writing skills

Question: I started writing my own informative tutorial like guide and i plan to write more guides on other skills/subjects. I wrote almost 2 pages (757 words) and i already covered a lot of content! Its my first guide and its about creating the kind of guides i want to make... My question is: How come people use 100 pages or something like that to cover a subject while i just get straight to the point and cover so much in a few pages? Am i doing something wrong or do people drag their **** out?

Edu, You're only doing something wrong in writing when you use too much descriptive data and run-on sentences. In your guide you take one subject at a time. You tell how it's done, and you explain why it works so well that way. Then you move on to the next subject and do the same. The how and why is very important in guide books. Most people will pick this type of book up in a library or bookstore and leaf through it first. If they see that it gets right to the point without a lot of other mumbo-jumbo they'll more than likely buy or sign it out. Remember that in writing - less is more. PJ M

It depends how much you have to say. If you're writing non-fiction, then it's good to be concise, especially if the topic is relatively narrow. But if you write fiction, like I do, then you may need more space to really build up a picture of the characters and the setting, and to fit in all the twists and turns of the plot. As long as your style is engaging and interesting, and filled with more than waffle, then a longer book doesn't have to be a bad thing. =)

Without being able to read your guide, my guess is that your "almost 2 pages" is nowhere near as complete and informative as you think it is.

the only thing that I can think of that comes close enough is greatesjournals.com. They allow you write all you want and add a picture in all of it.
