Question: Ok so I'm Irish and in 5th year. Because of the Irish system it is compulsory to do 7 subjects but I am doing 2 extra outside school (9 in total). I am doing all honours subjects (Irish, Math, English, French and then my 3 choice subjects in school are Business, History and Physics and my 2 extra subjects are Applied Maths and Economics). I like all my subjects except History but I can't change that. I am weak in Irish and French but can't drop because I need 540 points. In the evening I have very little 'me time' because of home work etc. I have gym membership but have no time to go. I work Tuesday evenings and Saturday 9-6. My Sundays are spent doing homework (I start it on Friday evening). As well as this I have loads of stress from my friends (through people being mean to me, a friend being sick etc.) I am getting extremely stressed with it all. Anyone have any advice on time mmanagementand should I see a therapist? Telling me that you get taught time managment in your school isn't exactly helping me. Currently I can't drop a subject but if I gather enough information and get my mum to talk to my principal I may be able to drop an 'in-school' subject. I need my job for money because I can't ask my parents to fund my social life. If I could I would drop History in school which would give me 5 free periods of 40 minutes each per week which I could use to study Economics myself. This would then free up my evenings a bit and leave me with only 1 out side school subject and homework but my school would find it very hard to let me do so as I should be taking 7 subjects through them.

The problem is that the first lesson of time management is to not over-commit. With honors courses, 2 extra classes, a job and friends, no amount of juggling is going to help free up your time. You mention needing the classes - are there any you can drop? Do you need the job? Can you get a different job that might give you time to study, like evening security guard? Friends and exercise are really good ways to manage stress, so I think you should drop some of the stuff that is making you stress and try to add stuff that will help you manage it. If you can't drop a class or the job, then look for ways to do 5 minutes of high-intensity exercise several times a day - running up stairs on the way to class, lifting heavy things at work, taking a break from homework to do jumping jacks, squat thrusts or jump rope in your room. It will relieve tension and help you focus. Make sure you are eating well (carry fruits around for snacks, or carrot sticks) and get as much sleep as you can. I use lists (of chores, homework due, big projects, etc) to keep me on track - the time spent putting them into a day planner is worth it if you are having trouble keeping your many assignments straight. EDIT: Ok, you can't drop the job - can you find a different one that lets you study while you are on the job? Also, think about whether the independence and social life are worth the stress. If yes, try dropping one class and use the mini-exercise tools. And drop the gym membership - you will never have time to use it. If you go see a therapist, you should do it with the thought that he can help you cut down on your activities and focus on what is most important. I am also an overachiever (Masters of Business [6 year college degree in the US] with a 3.98 GPA), and I have a really good idea of the time demands of what you're doing. You're pushing the limits of space-time! Prioritize. Good luck.

I don't think you should see a therapist. I think it's better to be busy, than to be taking part in the other actvities that another teen would with a lot of time on their hands. As for time management, an agenda should help because you can keep track of what you've done, and are going to do.

You sound to me like a FANTASTIC daughter that any parent would be thrilled to have. Instead of therapy, can you drop one thing you're doing? You need some fun time, that's for sure. Good luck ; I think you have a wonderful future , honey.

Well originally I would say see a therapist. But fitting a therapist into your busy life is just going to give you more things you have to do.

I hope you have been able to get all your work done satisfactorily and I hope that you at least pass. However, the best result from this experience would be that you learn to manage your time in order to fit in everything.....or that you learn not to be stressed out about it and be able to get good marks as well. I It takes all kind to make a world and there are times when we need people like you who can operate magnificantly under emergency conditions. Find out which conditions suit you best.
